Americans eat out quite a bit! Did you know that 1 out of every 4 Americans eats at a restaurant every day! Eating out can be tough on your diet. Here are some tips to help you maintain a healthy diet while eating at restaurants.
- Avoid anything that has a "Super, Biggie or Large Size" attached to it. There are enough Calories and fat in a regular size meal.
- Try to eat grilled chicken or fish.
- Get the salad dressing on the side. This way you can control the amount of dressing you use.
- Substitute soda for healthier alternatives like water, low-fat milk or low sugar juice. The average large cola has over 300 Calories!
- Choose sandwiches that are made of of low-fat deli choices like turkey. If you can, select a whole wheat bread.
- Substitute mayonnaise or lower fat alternatives like salsa and mustard.
- Many restaurants offer low fat side dishes like fruit cups or cottage cheese. Skip the Fries!
The most important thing to remember is to make smart food choices part of your everyday healthy eating plan. Making the right choices now, can help you live a happier, healthier life.
